Public Statement on Coronavirus Concerns #9

Revised 2020-08-20

Dear CUPA Community,

We hope that everyone has found ways to stay safe and enjoy your summer. We send our best to all of you and your families during these continued challenging times.

The CUPA Board had the opportunity to meet via video conference recently to discuss our ongoing plans and the potential to resume activities. After reviewing all available information (special thanks to our Director of Operations, Liz Anderson, for her continued research and collaboration with other ultimate organizations across the country) and discussing possible decisions, we have decided to officially cancel any ultimate activities organized by CUPA for the remainder of 2020. This would include any leagues, sanctioned team activities and tournaments, YUC/MUC practices or games, and any other sanctioned CUPA events. We recognize that we don't oversee every activity related to ultimate in our area and we highly encourage everyone to take the same caution that we are at this time.

We did not take this decision lightly and share your disappointment that we must continue to wait to get back on the field together. All of the considerations that have been outlined in previous statements remain true, and our priority is committed to participant safety above all else. In the end, we simply couldn’t justify resuming ultimate activities and believe that we were doing the best for our community.

While ultimate activities will remain suspended, we don’t intend to cease work altogether as an organization. The Board already gave Liz approval to evaluate plans for alternative safe community engagement activities. Meanwhile, planning and conversations continue at the Board and Committee levels. If you’re interested in getting involved, don’t hesitate to reach out. The biannual Board election process will occur in a few weeks, and we’re always looking for new energy and ideas to come forward.

As always, we are steadfast in our efforts to deliver on our mission statement as an organization. The approach may be temporarily modified, but we are here to support in any way that we can. If you need anything else or have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks to all of you for making our community a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Take care of yourselves and we will remain in touch!

Thanks,

Ryan Gorman
